SACD - A Description
Super Audio CD is a music format created by Sony and Phillips that provides much higher quality than CD with the added features of surround sound and multiple layers of copy protection. Most SACDs are also playable on a regular CD players because of an added "hybrid" layer. In the race to provide the consumer with a better format, SACD appears to be trouncing DVD-Audio with it's perceived better quality and CD compatibility. Making the transition to SACD is now a lot easier for the consumer with the flood of under $300 universal players that can play back a multitude of formats:CD, SACD, DVD-Video, and MP3. SACD is based on new type of digital recording known as Direct Stream Digital (DSD) which samples the analog audio signal at a rate of 2.8 Megahertz (64 times that of CD). Many audio professionals are delighted by it's "smooth" and "analog-like" sound. Because of this proprietary technology, very speical equipment, ie. recorders, converters, and workstations, is needed to do SACD Mastering. Northeastern Digital is proud to offer this unique service to its clients.
The main features of the SACD format include:
Up to 100kHz bandwidth and 120 dB dynamic range Full quality for all channels Hybrid disc holds both CD and DVD layers Watermarking and advanced copy protection Future Text, graphics and video

DIRECT STREAM DIGITAL Conversion EDITING AND EQ AUTHORING OF AUDIO LAYERS, SACD TEXT. SACD MASTER Audio is converted to the DSD format (1 bit @ 2.8 MHz) and stored on a hard disk. Editing and digital signal processing is carried out on a digital workstation using DXD format (32 bit/352.8 kHz) The hybrid CD, stereo and multichannel SACD layers are all assimilated with SACD TEXT. All audio layers are audtioned and verified. A digital AIT Tape is created and sent to the SACD plant as the "cutting master"
