Mastering 2008!

On the DropBoston's Greatest Hits

Toby Mountain, along with Tom Scholz and Bill Ryan, finished remastering the Boston Greatest Hits album, which will be released this spring by Sony on their Epic/Legacy label. The collection culls tracks from the first two albums, as well as songs from Third Stage, which were transferred from the original analog master. Release date is set for summer 2008 coinciding with a Boston tour.

Tom Scholz, the mastermind behind the Boston, has himself declared, “The difference is amazing to me. I never liked these old mixes on 16 bit CD; now they sound great.”

Shoot Out the Lights
Professor Louie was in twice to master a new Crowmatix Holiday CD as well as an album entitled, Over the Edge. The band has been touring non stop during the second half of 2007 to such remote places as Siberia. The tour is documented in the new film, "Woodstock-Siberia Blues Express" available from Woodstock Records.
Famed songwriter and guitarist, Artie Traum, was in mastering his newest release, Thief of Time, which has garnished praise from all circles. Featured on the record are Tony Levin (bass), Warren Bernhardt (piano) and Gary Burke (drums), along with multi-platinum artist Donna Lewis and John Sebastian. It is available from Roaring Stream Records.

Several new Rounder bluegrass projects were finished with producer, Ken Irwin. They included such notables as Tony Trischka (left), Claire Lynch (right), Charlie Sizemore, Bobby Osborne, and Third Tyme Out.


Also added to the Rounder catalogue were two other projects by well known musicians: Jimmy Sturr spent a day at NDR working on his newest polka CD, "Come Share the Wine," which has translated into his 17th Grammy award! Toby also completed the mastering of a Riders in the Sky compilation, entitled Public Cowboy #1: A Centennial Salute.

David Grover, songwriter extroadinaire, came in to work on two new holiday childrens' CDs for Koch Records: Chanukah and Ernestine the Green Eyed Elf. David was recently given a Parent's Choice award for his educational CD, I'm Learning to Read, which was also mastered at NDR.

Hailing from Portland, ME, the exciting funk band Boombazi was in mastering their second CD with Toby. The Portland Phoenix claims that the band has moved "the funk genre forward."

  The Radionics, formerly known as Rebecca Nurse, came to NDR to master their latest album, Doubt, Pain and Rock & Roll, recently released on Dog Hill Records. The album features their new lead singer, Trace, who has been touted as a "a red-hot rock goddess who drips sex appeal."

Famed Canadian singer, Teresa Ennis, had her latest CD, Space, mastered at NDR by Toby Mountain. The album features some delightful acoustic songs by such songwriting greats as Bruce Cockburn, Pete Townshend, and Jackson Browne.  
 
Songwriter, Jenny Goodspeed, was at NDR mastering her long awaited release, Under the Ash Tree, which is a delicious mix of folk, pop, bluegrass, and jazz. So far the album has received 5 star praise from many reviewers and fans.

  Ware River Club Chris Wilson has been working steadily with Toby, assembling a long line of new releases for Heartbeat from the vaults of the legendary Studio One label. Two of the releases feature Bob Marley and the Wailers. The others include Lone Ranger, Dennis Alcapone, The Abyssinians, as well as new Studio One compilations, Six the Hard Way, Roots Man Dub, and When Rhythm Was King.

Several notable jazz projects have landed at NDR over the past six months.They include two new CDs by the Cambridge group, Aardvark, headed by Mark Harvey. Also completed were projects by pianist Rob Spaulding and David Harris.

On the classical front, there were several significant editing and mastering projects: Pianist and producer Wha Kyung Byun finished a CD of solo Debussy pieces performed by her husband, world renowned pianist Russell Sherman (right).

Pianist Darryl Rosenberg completed several stages of editing of Chopin and Debussy pieces for a future project.

Other classical projects included famed soprano, Ginamaria Hidalgo, and composer, Shirish Korde.
